31 Years of Distinguished Military Experience and Service

Dr. Christopher Williams is a native New Orleanian, born and raised in the ninth ward and proud alumni of the New Orleans public school system. Dr. Williams has led a distinguished life of public service. He is a Military Veteran, retiring from the U.S. Army after 31 years as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. Dr. Williams’ law enforcement experience is extensive, serving on the local and federal level as a Police Officer, Police Sergeant, Police Commander, Director of Public Safety, Supervisory Physical Security Officer, and Chief of Police, including employment as an Orleans Parish Deputy Sheriff. He recently retired as the Program Manager for the Department of Veterans Affairs at the VA Hospital in New Orleans. To complement his professional experience, the FBI awarded Dr. Williams a certificate for completing the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development course. Overall, Dr. Williams has more than 32 years of law enforcement experience. 

 

Believing and knowing that community empowerment is a product of economic development, Dr. Williams has worked with boards such as the Louisiana Technology Council, Algiers Charter Schools, and Apex Investment Corporation to improve economic education and development. He is also a member of the National Chief of Police Association and has served as Vice President to the People United for Armstrong Park. Dr. Williams believes in change that improves the standard of living and social interaction.  He invites both community and governmental input as a leader.  He obtained a master’s degree in criminal justice from the Southern University of New Orleans and later attained his Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership in 2015 from Nova Southeastern University. Driven by his passion for learning and empowering others, he has served as an adjunct professor at Delgado Community College, Upper Iowa University, and Southern University in New Orleans. Dr. Williams shares his knowledge and experience with students not only through course instructions but also through personal 1:1 mentoring and is a senior mentor with the Silverback Society.  

 

Dr. Williams has specialized knowledge and vast experience in the following areas: (1) Strategic Planning/Leadership, (2) Fiscal Analysis & Management, (3) Operations Management, 

(4) Human Resource Management, (5) Fundraising, (6) Program/Project Management, and(7)Community Engagement just to name a few that will enable his success as Sheriff. 

 

Dr. Williams is a visionary, forward-thinking, and collaborative leader with a solid track record of creating positive impact and driving sustainable results in diverse environments through diverse people. He is a family man, married to Gracie Williams (wife of 21 years), with four children, three daughters, and a son. Dr. Williams believes in giving back and providing service to his community and to his country, The United States of America.
